DOS DE MAYO in MADRID

   In May, 2, 1808 our ancestors from Madrid started to fight against French troops of Napoleon Bonaparte and that day started Spanish independence war.

     The king Fernando VII went to Bayona and left his uncle, Pascual de Borbon, as governor. In May, 2, it was anticipate the rest of real family to go France at nine o'clock in the morning, the people from Madrid saw how Francisco de Paula was forced to leave Real Palace, and then 30.000 civilians rioted. The combats were imbalance and the repression of the Murat troops.
Francisco de Goya drew "El 2 de mayo de 1808 en Madrid" and "Los fusilamientos de Príncipe Pío".



Nowadays it is celebrate a big party at "Plaza Dos de mayo" with processions and a fiesta.
