Anna Kravchenko  tells about this day in Russia.

A Day All In Love (Day of Lovers, 14 February) is celebrated in Europe more than 18 centures. Some people think that it was celebrated even earlier. The ancient custom ascends to the Roman holiday "Lupercalia". This Roman holyday was devoted to the goddess of "feverish" love Juno Februata. This day all was left with their businesses, and the fun began. As a result after February 14 the plenty of families were created.

The Roman emperor Klavdy II was going to conquer the world at 269 year. But the Roman army had not enough soldiers for military campaigns. The source of all troubles Klavdy II saw in a marriage. So he desided to forbidden wedding. But the priest named Valentine neglected an interdiction of the tyrant. Wedding were made secretly. However emperor has found out about it. Valentine was thrown in prison.

The daughter of one of the jailers came to Valentine in the prison before some days up to execute. She was ill hardly. Valentine cured her. But he could not help to himself. Execution was nominated to February 14. The day before the execution Valentine has asked for some paper, the handle and ink. He wrote his last love letter to the girl. February 14 270 year he was executed. And the girl opened a slip, where Valentine wrote about his love. This letter was  signed "yours Valentine".
