Many
young people in Norway choose to have a non-Christian
Confirmation Ceremony the year they turn 15 years old. Instead of learning about
the Bible and the Christian way of living they learn about the Humanism. They
attend a class where they discuss important human issues and when the class is
finished they have a Confirmation Party.
Whether
you choose to have a Christian or a Civil Confirmation, it is common for the
girls to wear their National Costumes on the day of the Confirmation Ceremony.
After
the Ceremony it is common to meet with your family and have a Confirmation party
in honour of the confirmed person. At the party the Confirmed receive gifts from
friends and family.
Back
in the old days the Confirmation symbolized the adulthood of the teen. When you
reached the age of 15 you were an adult. This is not the case anymore. Now it is
more a symbol of the youngsters choice in beliefs.
